Upset about the end of “Hell on Wheels?” Don’t worry, because AMC will attempt to fill this bittersweet void with another new Western series, “The American West.” AMC recently announced that “Hell on Wheels” will conclude its fifth and final season with the last seven episodes this June, followed by the new limited eight-episode documentary series “The American West,” produced by Robert Redford and Stephen David.

The last season of “Hell on Wheels” concludes the storyline for Cullen Bohannon and his work on the first transcontinental railroad, in which audiences finally get to see the confrontation between Bohannan and Swede, Chang and Thomas Durant. Fighting corruption, greed and murder, Bohannon has a lot at stake, which could quickly come tumbling down as the railroad nears completion.

Meanwhile, following the tradition and legacy of classic American westerns, “The American West” is set during the aftermath of the Civil War as the Wild West becomes more saturated with violent cowboys, Indians, outlaws and sheriffs. The limited series will chronicle a more personal look at famous Western legends Jesse James, Billy the Kid, Wyatt Earp, Crazy Horse and Sitting Bull. Be on the lookout for exclusive interviews with stars from classic Western films, including Robert Redford, James Caan, Burt Reynolds, Tom Selleck, Keifer Sutherland, Mark Harmon, Ed Harris and others.
