Amazon Partners With Roadside Attractions for Awards Season Release of ‘Manchester By the Sea’

Amazon has partnered with Roadside Attractions to release “Manchester By the Sea” later this year, reports Variety, surely hoping to grab some Oscar buzz during its release. Amazon was able to snag “Manchester By the Sea” with a reported $10 million offer after a brutal bidding war at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, where the film debuted to near-universal acclaim.

Writer-director Kenneth Lonergan (“Margaret”) helmed the new drama starring Casey Affleck, Michelle Williams and Kyle Chandler. The movie follows Affleck as Lee Chandler, who is made the legal guardian of his older brother’s son after his death. Returning to his hometown on the North Shore near Boston, Lee must grapple with the loss of his brother, his newfound responsibility, his former wife Randi (Williams) and a series of heart-wrenching past events that threaten to ruin his future.

“Manchester By the Sea” will receive a limited release on November 18, and should expand nationwide in mid-December.
