Wendy Schneider’s “The Smart Studios Story” will receive its world premiere today, March 16, at the SXSW Film Festival. The film tells the iconic story of the titular recording studio founded by Butch Vig and Steve Marker, and features some must-see interviews including Dave Grohl, Billy Corgan, Shirley Manson, Donita Sparks, Chris Walla and many more.
The SXSW documentary chronicles the rise of the Smart Studios recording studio that supported and produced some of the best alternative rock music of the ’90s, including seminal albums by Nirvana, The Smashing Pumpkins, Garbage, L7 and Death Cab for Cutie. The movie offers never-before-seen archival footage, interviews with band members and a great soundtrack.
“The Smart Studios Story” will debut today at 5:30 p.m. at the Paramount Theater, with another screening on March 18 at 11:00 a.m. at the Alamo Ritz. Watch our exclusive clip above.
