Don Cheadle’s directorial debut “Miles Ahead” is just over a month away from release, and Indiewire is excited to premiere a handful of new stills from the movie that show off its era-defining soul. Cheadle stars as the titular jazz legend Miles Davis, and the project has been one that he’s worked on for years, even starting an IndieGoGo project to fund it when no studio would. He co-wrote the film with Steven Baigelman, Stephen J. Rivele and Christopher Wilkinson. Baigelman also wrote last year’s “Get On Up,” the James Brown biopic starring Chadwick Boseman.

Based on the life of Miles Davis, “Miles Ahead” explores the life and music behind one of the most famous and influential jazz musicians. The movie also stars Emayatzy Corinealdi and Ewan McGregor. “Miles Head” premiered at the 2015 New York Film Festival and will be released by Sony on April 1.
