Ryan Murphy Launches Foundation to Promote Diversity in Hollywood

Ryan Murphy announced a new foundation within 20th Century Fox, called Half, will now aim to have 50 percent of all director slots on his shows filled by women, people of color and LGBT members. He plans to hire someone to co-manage the foundation with him later this year.

Murphy told The Hollywood Reporter, “I personally can do better.” He wants his shows — “Scream Queens,” “American Crime Story” and “American Horror Story” — to reach the 50 percent mark by the end of 2016.

In addition, Murphy will begin outreach efforts at colleges to align candidates with mentors, starting with visits to AFI, UCLA and USC. He wants to let young people know that Hollywood can be — and will be — more inclusive, hoping to promote change and progress for a new generation.
