French director Arnaud Desplechin spins a new tale about lost love, wistful adolescence and the tumultuous period of life as a teenager in “My Golden Days.” The film has already garnered much praise at the Cannes Film Festival last year by picking up the prestigious SACD Prize.

“My Golden Days” tells the story of Paul Dédalus, an anthropologist preparing to leave Tajikistan. As he reflects on his life, Paul has a series of flashbacks, starting from his childhood in Roubaix to his mother’s descent into madness, his father’s depression, his university experiences and the love of his life.

In regards to its connection with “My Sex Life…,” Desplechin said, “So, yes, I guess the films have a link, but it’s not a link that I tried to create…I wanted to make a film that if you didn’t see ‘My Sex Life…,’ it would work on its own.”

Magnolia Pictures will release “My Golden Days” on March 18.
